Flynn Medical Centre is a General Medical Practice serving the community of Shannon and its surrounds. The Flynns have a strong tradition of providing medical care in Shannon. In 1947 Dr William Flynn began as one of Shannon's first doctors, providing care to the earliest residents in the town as well as workers in the Shannon Free Zone and commuters using the new Shannon Airport.
In 1977 his sons, Drs Michael and Peter Flynn followed in his footsteps and have continued to care for the community as the town has grown and been shaped by its residents. Dr Michaels’s son, Dr Ronan Flynn, joined Dr Michael, starting work as an assistant in 2012 and has since taken over the practice when Dr Michael retired at the age of 70 in July 2019. Dr Michael’s daughter, Dr Colette Flynn, joined Dr Ronan in 2022. It is a real source of pride to be able to say that a number of our current patients have been taken care of by 3 generations of Drs’ Flynn.
In July 2017 we moved into a purpose built medical centre on Tullyvarraga Hill. This new spacious and modern facility allows for more comfortable patient experience and new and improved services.
As the needs of our patients have developed and new technology has become available we have adapted and we now provide a wide variety of medical services at the clinic.

Excellence in Care for Patients, Families and Companies
Flynn Medical Centre caters for the community of Shannon as well as surrounding villages of Newmarket on Fergus, Bunratty, Cratloe and Sixmilebridge. Additionally, we are close to Ennis and Limerick city. We also provide medical services to numerous companies in the Shannon Industrial Estate, Smithtown Industrial Estate, East Park Industrial Estate and Shannon Airport. Services are provided through the GMS medical card scheme as well as to private patients and through the Garda Medical Aid scheme. Some services are covered with private health insurance such as VHI, LAYA and Irish Life.
The clinic is staffed by Dr Ronan Flynn and Dr Colette Flynn, principal GPs, Dr Aidan Browne, Nurse Ruth McInerney and Nurse Tricia Russel, our secretaries Hazel Slattery, Ruth Gleeson and Clare Fagan and practice manager Deirdre O’Halloran Flynn. We are a postgraduate training practice for General Practice Trainees from the Mid West GP Training Scheme and an undergraduate training practice for General Practice students from National University of Ireland, Galway.

Our Staff
Dr. Ronan Flynn
Dr. Ronan Flynn qualified from NUI, Galway in 2005 and worked in hospitals in Ireland, Australia, and Zambia before entering specialist GP training in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. Having grown up in Shannon, he has always had close ties with the community through the schools he attended and the soccer team he played with. It is a very humbling honour for him to be able to work with the people who helped shape his development as he grew up.
During college, Dr. Flynn had the opportunity to travel to and work in Zambia. Almost 20 years later, he still has close ties with this beautiful country. Much like Ireland, Zambia is steeped in culture and mythology, amazing landscapes, and wonderful people. Zambia and Ireland have a long and fruitful relationship, something Dr. Flynn is happy to contribute to through his work with Neri Clinics and the ICGP Global Health special interest group.
Dr. Colette Flynn
Colette joined the team in 2022 after finishing the Specialist GP Training Scheme in the MidWest. She graduated from NUIG in 2012 and spent the next number of years gaining experience in hospital posts along the west coast in specialities including general medicine and palliative.
With additional training in children’s health, dermatology and palliative medicine, Colette brings valued experience to the team. Colette’s special interests include women’s health and dermatology. She is trained in all aspects of contraception including LARC.
Dr. Aidan Browne
Aidan graduated from the graduate entry medicine programme in UL in 2015 and completed his specialist GP training from the MidWest scheme in 2020. Prior to training as a doctor, Aidan worked for a number of years as a occupational therapist and therefore brings a whole new aspect of knowledge to the team.
Aidan has a keen interest in sport and sports medicine. His skill set include joint injections and MSK assessment.
Dr. Michael Flynn
Dr Michael Flynn joined his father in GP practice in Shannon in 1977. He served the community with kindness and compassion until his retirement in 2019.
He spent his retired years playing golf, flying model airplanes and spending time with his grandchildren.
Dr Michael Flynn passed away in March 2025. He is sadly missed. RIP
Practice Nurses
Our practice nurses, Nurse Ruth McInerney and Nurse Tricia Russell, play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to our patients. They are available during clinic hours to assist with routine procedures such as blood tests, dressings, vaccinations, chronic disease management reviews, and more.
Administration Team
Our reception staff are here to assist you with your queries and ensure the smooth running of the practice. Hazel Slattery, Ruth Gleeson and Clare Fagan are dedicated members of our team who will greet you with a warm welcome and help you navigate your appointments or administrative needs. Our practice manager is Deirdre O'Halloran-Flynn who keeps things running in the background.
